Lifting Slings for Installation Sites of Public Art Projects

At the installation site of public art projects (such as sculptures and installation art), the selection and use of lifting slings must take into account the three core requirements of surface protection of artworks, adaptation to special-shaped structures, and high safety redundancy.

Choosing a Sling: Matching the Art Installation's Characteristics
    Material and Type Priority
Flat polyester sling: Preferred! Its wide contact surface (≥10cm) distributes pressure and protects delicate surfaces (such as painted surfaces, glass, and polished metal). Polyester is highly weather-resistant (-40°C to 100°C) and UV-resistant, making it suitable for long-term outdoor installation.
Round sling with a sheath: If the artwork has sharp edges (such as the edges of metal sculptures), choose a round sling with a wear-resistant Kevlar sheath to prevent cuts. Damage to the sheath is immediately visible, providing added safety.

Special Scenarios: Special Shapes and High-Value Artworks
    1. Glass/Mirror Artwork
Select ultra-flexible flat slings (with a fleece inner layer) or apply a protective film (such as 3M anti-scratch film) to the surface of polyester slings.
Lifting angles should be ≤ 30° to reduce the risk of glass breakage caused by lateral pressure.
    2. Polished Metal Sculptures
Use polypropylene slings (which contain no metal ions and prevent oxidation and blackening) or polyester slings with suede protective pads.
Do not use galvanized chains (zinc ions can contaminate the polished surface).
    3. Ultra-high-altitude installations (such as building facades)
Select a Dyneema sling with anti-rotation wire rope. The Dyneema resists wind load sway, while the wire rope prevents the sling from twisting.
Equip a fall arrester (such as a speed differential controller) to mitigate the risk of sudden falls.
